Hello Friends!

Summertime often brings some sort of vacation, an escape to someplace that might be comfortable and familiar or exciting and completely new to you. What are your tricks for holding onto that vacation feeling? One idea is to take a favorite photo from your trip and use it to create a color palette for a quilt - it doesn't have to be a landscape quilt! It could be a bear paw quilt, or scrappy nine patches, anything at all, but use colors and textures that recall your getaway! For example, here's a photo from Lake Metigoshe State Park in our neighbor, North Dakota.

And here is a stack of fabrics pulled with this photo in mind.

Note the addition of the red print - there's no red in the photo, but a little flash of red here and there in the blocks will give the quilt some spark. Note, too, that these bolts are pulled across lines - there are several designers and lines and more than one manufacturer in this stack! If I wanted to make a small project, a runner, for example, I could use a smaller selection:

We have two new kits in the store to tempt you into your sewing room on these lovely summer days - or to keep you busy on those stormy days we know will come along at some point.

The first is a version of the Halldora quilt from Gudrun Erla's beautiful book Quilts of Iceland. We did ours in prints from the Clover Hollow line with a dark background.

The next is a kit with the Zen Chic X and + pattern in the Flourish line - such pretty soft colors! Fresh and refreshing!

Our JEM of the Week is this cheerful butterfly panel, usually $8.99, but $7.99 this week!

Our Sew in Love Quilt-Along starts later this month! More details below in the class listings!

The Stella class with Jennifer Halbur in July (details below!) gives you a chance to learn how to use the Stripology ruler, make a quilt from the new Stripology Mixology book from Gudrun Erla, and learn from one of Gudrun's very own test quilters (you can see her name in the back of the Quilts of Iceland book!). Jennifer has traveled to Iceland with Gudrun, and is sure to have lots of tips for using the Stripology ruler to its full potential!

Our Summer Moon Quilt-Along will be starting up in August - sign ups are open and we have the book and FQ bundles in lots of different styles - modern, traditional, vintage, neutral, you name it! Join the club for weekly emails with tips and examples!

Shop hopping this summer? If you and your friends or small group are shop hopping this summer, be sure to let us know you plan to stop by the shop - we would love the chance to plan something fun for you!
